~ Serenity ~

I really love the view from my deck in the mornings....

...as I make my morning coffee...
looking out  my kitchen window....
listening to the birds.....

I look out across the hazy valley....

I love to watch our wallabies ....
who share out property.....
grazing contentedly on the grass each morning...
I'll often get a glimpse of a joey ...
feeling safe enough to
venture out of a warm pouch.....

I feel quite contented myself.......

~ Chocolate Cake ~

I made a chocolate cake yesterday.....
(Mums's original recipie!)

...only half of it is left!

The children enjoyed it for dessert......
it was still warm with some icecream!

Don't you love the decorative roses?!
They are brilliant... they just wash off to be re used.....
I got them from  Hey Yo Yo on etsy....
along with some other great items too....
cupcake liners, paper straws and other cake decorations!

If you are interested in the easy chocolate cake recipe...
I'm sure mum won't mind me sharing.....

~ Storytime Fun ~

I have been playing around with some vintage
Alice in Wonderland pictures.....

I made a fun decorative paper garland....

I can imagine it strung up in a childs room or at a party.....
I have strung it in my work space.....

I had great fun making some wooden storybook blocks!

This would be a sweet educational toy...
you could use it to discuss the story with your child...
or just enjoy changing the different images,
like I do!

Also.... how cute are these wooden Alice magnets????

~ Lime & Coconut Cake ~

I recently made this cake for a morning tea at work....
I had forgotten how much I loved it!

I have one cake recipe that I use for everything...
it was originally Mum's chocolate cake recipe &
I just adapt it with different flavours.....
but this combination is just SO right!

LIME & COCONUT CAKE

Mix together:
1 cup of sugar
1 cup of SR flour
1/2 cup of lime juice
(2 should be about right)
2 beaten eggs
about 1/2 cup of drained crushed pimneapple
1/2 cup of shredded ccoconut
& the zest of the limes
Then pour 125g of melted butter into the mixture
and stir until well combined.

Pour into a greased ring tin & bake
in a moderate oven for about 35-40 min.

The icing that I make is about  1 1/2 cups of icing sugar,
a tablespoon of butter
& a good squeeze of lime juice
(about a two teaspoons)
and do not forget to grate in some zest!
I like a nice thick consistancy...
you may need to add a squeeze of juice
or a bit more icing sugar..

Then the yummy coconut topping....
toast the shredded coconut in a dry saucepan,
move it with a spoon so it doesn't burn...
get it straight out of the pan
when it's the right toasty colour...
that way it doesn't keep cooking.

The cake is best when you get great fresh limes
 from a friend (thanks Jen!!!!!)

~ Sew Fishy ~

I have been sewing.....
inspired by sun-kissed sea creatures!

I cut some simple fish shapes,
attached the buttons & sewed the edges.
I left the tail open to stuff them,
finally pinning and sewing the tail shut!
I added fins, but I think they would
still be pretty without them.

It was sew easy!
BUT I wasn't ready to stop there...
as usual once I start sewing something new,
I just don't want to stop.....

Sooo next was a pretty jelly softie.....
I thought she might look cute hanging in a child (or babies) bedroom.

I think she might be sweet above a baby change table too....
the tenticles are so soft and wavy...

What sea creature will be next?
I can almost hear you ask...
Well......
I thought a sea horse might be fun....
....so might a whale.....
...or.....
lucky it is school holidays!

I attached some wire & stamped ....
using my new 7 Gypsies stamps.
I also added a black glittery chipboard embelishment.

~ Baby Gift ~

A friend has just had a precious baby girl
so I was inspired to make a very girlie gift to celebrate....

As I was in a mood to use up every canvas in my stash...
(I still have two to post!)
I decided to scrapbook a named canvas for the baby's room.

I prepared the paper first by sewing my paper pieces together
and then sewing on the cream lace and hot pink pom pom trim.
Then I glued the paper to the canvas.

Next I  embossed the bird cage & bird...
(a gift from Jac~ THANKS Jac...this is how I have used them!)
which I attached using 3D foam to raise them slightly.
Then I used a bit of silver kaisercraft bling to add some sparkle....

I used a bella sparkle alphabet to put her name on
and a few 3D sparkle roses stickers & a butterfly to sticker embelish.

To finish I added a K & Co chipboard message...
you make my heart sing...
which about sums up how you feel when you see your new baby girl!

Welcome to the world,
Serena!

~ Mannequin Canvas #2 ~

I just loved my first mannequin canvas,
but wanted to experiment a bit.....
so I thought I'd try innovating on my original idea.....
adding more collage elements.

I gathered my materials....
* a small canvas
*paper ~ basic grey's sonata & a vintage tissue sewing pattern
* stamps ~ 7 gypsies Avignon
* cream vintage buttons
*tapes ~ linen & old book
*chipboard mannequin & white embossing materials

First I embossed my chipboard to give it a white enamel look.

If you haven't embossed before it is SO easy....
press the top side of your chipboard into the embossing ink so the surface is covered,

pour embossing powder over the entire surface,
gently move the piece shaking the excess powder off
and pouring the excess back in the container.

Then gently heat the powder until it is melted and shiny.
When it cools & dries it will be ready to use.

I covered the canvas in Modge Podge and glued on the paper and tissue pattern strip.
Before gluing the paper, I sewed down one edge to add texture (you can't really see it in the picture).
Then I stamped and added the tapes.
After that I glued the mannequin chipboard & buttons.
Finally I gave it an extra coat of Modge Podge to seal it.

I really like this one.....
but I am aleady having some ideas for Mannequin Canvas #3...
I'll keep you posted!!!

~ Papercraft Show ~

Today Miss Tiff & I went to the papercraft show in Brisbane
....WOW ....
what fun!

We got lots of new ideas and a few new supplies....
...had lunch at a French Cafe....
and really enjoyed a girls day out!

Needless to say I raced home to turn craft into some art!!!!!

The chipboard selection was fantastic. These little beauties instantly reminded me of something I had seen in the latest issue of Scrapbooking Memories where someone (sorry, I can't remember who) had collaged sewing patterns over a felted damask paper.

I thought I would love to try it for a little canvas, so I cut it to the paper to size and modge podged it to the canvas. Then I collaged the tissue pattern over the top. Next I embossed my chipboard mannequin (not the one above... I bought a few different ones) with black and positioned it to the left of the canvas.
Finally I added some lace trim at the bottom.

I really like the effect, although it is more brown than I thought it would be, so I have some experimenting to do still. But I couldn't wait to photograph it, so it may get lighter when it is dry!

~ Love Life Journal ~

When I was shopping at the new Kaisercraft outlet store at Robina I found a great little journal crying out to be decorated.  They have a fantastic selection of chipboard products and supplies PLUS the staff are both lovely and helpful.
SO I painted my journal covers pink and pulled out some vintage music paper & german die cuts from my stash.....

I also collaged some favourite vintage bits and pieces on to the inside cover.

I used some letftover golden book pages to decorate the dividers....and used my victorian lace border punch to pretty up some edges.

I used more vintage music sheet (inking the edges with Tim Holts antique paper) to decorate the back cover.

Pretty and practical!
