~ Friday Flowers ~

I don't usually play along
with Friday Flowers.....

my flower buying habits
are much more random....

and it depends on what I have
cut from the garden....

today I couldn't resist...
these pink roses are so beautiful...
I must say that for me, fresh flowers
are not just for Fridays,
they are an every day pleasure...
AND they are not a only luxury
they are a necessity!!!!

My Secret Santa
left me a wonderful surprise this week....

I just love it...
my idea of bliss...
cup of tea & a favourite mag!
I suspect that it is
someone who knows me well....
that writing looked familiar....
but I can't place it.....
I wonder who it could be?????

Thanks SS!!!!!!
You made my day!

~ Sweet Treat ~

I was given a sweet treat
on the weekend,
not only did I get to catch up
with dear friends
but I also got some little surprises....

isn't this little birdie sweet!!!!!

First I put him
out on the table filled with my new mini rose...

very cute.....

then I tried putting a candle in it.....
it looked so nice
that I brought it inside.....

and put it on the coffee table
on top of my chalk cloth table runner.....

where I think it might stay.....
at least until a new idea pops into my mind!!!!!

Thanks for my gift Judith,
I just love it!

~ Cool Junk ~

I found this awesome retro fan
at a garage sale a little while ago....

Mr Tiff really was not totally convinced we needed it.....
in fact he wondered why on earth
I had brought it home...
and what I was going to do with it....
(I am paraphrasing here
because I'd better not write his actual words)

but...
you see I just don't care
that it doesn't actually work
and that he thinks it is worth less
than the $3 I paid for it!
I just like the look of it
and it cheers me up!

So....
I'm sticking to my opinions...
it may be worthless,
it may not work,
it just sits about looking good....

I am quite happy with my
 cool junk!!!!!

~ Fresh Spring Asparagus ~

Another delightful harvest
 from my Spring Garden.....
fresh asparagus spears!

Last week I cut my asparagus right back.....

so this week I have been rewarded
with fresh asparagus spears each day!

It is so amazing how they pop
their heads out of the ground......
I love hunting for them!

BUT.... I love eating them even more!

~ Feed Sack Tea Towels ~

Recently I found some great
feed sack tea towels .....

Can you guess what I did
with them this weekend?
well....
I made them into some cushions....

I love the feed sack design & colours....
and they were a bargain....
they were on sale
(two for $6!)

how could I resist?
(needless to say...
I didn't even try!)

I just folded them,
sewed along the stitching on two sides,
then stuffed them & sewed them closed
along the stitching on the third side.

When I need to wash them, the whole
cushion can go in the wash.
The fabric is a really nice thick cotton
and I think it will wear well.

Not bad for less than an hours work!

~ Be My Guest ~

I finally got a chance to
take some pictures of the guest house....

I know,
it is an odd mis~match
of bits'n'pieces....
inherited, salvaged, found...
but I wouldn't have it any other way.....

naturally there is a chalkboard
welcome sign!

~ * ~

I have quite a few ladders....
so I put this one ($5 at a market) to use
to hang the extra blanket....

I found a mozzie net at a charity shop
for a mere $10...
in amazing condition,
so after a soak in nappysan in the bath,
and an air dry in the shower...
it is perfect....

I am delighted with my cushions
now they are in place....

I repainted this kitchen dresser recently.....
I am so happy with that too.....

my re-vamped lamps
are also in place & look quite fine
with my precious inherited mirror....

there is a mirror on almost every wall...

(there are 8 in total in the house,
although not all are hung...
too much you think?)

I just can't help buying them...
I never walk past one ....
I do need to stop....
before it becomes a collection...

you know how odd those collectors are...
not so perfectly normal like me....
HA!

I just couldn't help it.....

after seeing these chicken-wire cloches
 HERE at Les Cotrions
I had to have a go myself!

I got so excited......

.... that my wee little man got caged in!!!!!

But I did illuminate him
to make him feel better!

He will now take pride of place on my outdoor table....
........ while I make some more!!!!!

~ Babushka Gift Pack ~

I put together a little gift pack
for one of the girls
last weekend....

first I made a simple lanyard
out of a divine babushka linen tape
that I purchased on etsy......

then I made a little wooden
babushka tag by stamping & drilling a hole
in a little wooden medallion....

I also made a babushka lavender bag
using some fabric in my stash.....

then I made a few more ...
while I was in the mood
(they should come in handy for
Chrissy gifts... they would look sweet
in a little girls room too I think!)

they made a perfectly themed gift,
for someone who (like me) has a little
soft spot for babushkas!

Next I popped them into a special gift bag....
made from a children's party bag
(from Spotlight) & one of
my pretty French label stickers....

and finished off with one of my
handmade shipping tags....

Happy Birthday,
 Trudi!

~ Vintage Dictionary Envelopes ~

I just love pretty packaging.....

A little while back I bought
a wooden envelope template,
but hadn't quite found the time to give it a try.....
so when I found up a set of three
vintage dictionaries ($3 ea)
I knew what I wanted to do with them.....

First I unpicked the binding....
(sorry book!)

so the pages were the right size....

then I traced the envelope outline,

and cut them out.

I folded them into shape and glued down the sides.

To hold the envelope closed, I tied
some jute twine around carefully
& decorated with a
sweet little clothes peg topped
with a tiny butterfly punched from
the off cuts of the page!

Easy vintage dictionary envelopes!

Needless to say,
now no vintage book is safe!

(I will admit that Red Riding Hood
and Aladdin have already been transformed
from their prior shape....)
